We got our hands on the Amazfit GTR 47m version with Stainless Steel finish and here are our first impression about the watch.

Amazfit GTR Review

Design

Amazfit GTR comes in two sizes 42mm and 47mm, the one which got is the 47mm one and there are a bunch of color options too. The watch comes with a round dial and it has an embossed ring around the bezel. The bezel has marking on it The watch has a glossy finish around the casing with two buttons on the side. The buttons can be used to navigate around the user interface apart from the touch screen.   The Amazfit GTR comes with a plastic back panel which holds the HR sensor and the connectors for charging. The watch has a small bump at the back so it can take the HR measurements precisely. The whole watch is pretty much lightweight even with the metallic build quality. It weighs around 48 grams and it is only 10.75 mm thick which won’t bother you if you have big wrists.

Display

Amazfit GTR comes with a 1.39-inch AMOLED display on the 47mm version, the 42mm model has a smaller display. The display size is pretty much similar to what we get on modern smartwatches. The display panel is AMOLED helping in battery optimization and extending the battery life up to 20 days. This display is the best you can get on a smartwatch at this price range also it comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection and anti-smudge coating.

The display on Amazfit GTR is bright and it comes with an auto-brightness feature which helps in adjusting the brightness according to the lighting conditions. Whether you are at the gym working out or in the sun riding your bicycle, the display stays bright and readable in all conditions.

Software

The Amazfit GTR smartwatch comes with Amazfit OS which comes with brands own proprietary OS. This Amazfit OS is pretty much similar to Google’s Wear OS when it comes to the user interface and navigations. When it comes to watch faces, you get two of them saved on the watch itself, more can be downloaded from the Amazfit app. Amazfit GTR does not come with third-party apps support which means you cannot install more apps to the watch. The user interface does not feel smooth at all, even out of the box you can feel the interface stuttering at some places. You get one sleep/wake and home button on the side and one customizable button which can be set to launch anything using the app.

Performance and Sensors

The Amazfit GTR is perfect when it comes to performance and using it as a fitness band is kind of a pain but if you want a watch, its perfect to go with. You get notifications, read messages (cannot reply to them), always-on display, get notifications and lots of watch faces to go with.

Using Amazfit GTR as a band could be a problem with some fitness freaks because the watch has a noticeable weight compared to a fitness band. The sensors are not that accurate as well, there are a bunch of other fitness-related features you get with a proper fitness band which you won’t get here.

Battery

The battery on the Amazfit GTR is a 410 mAh on 47mm and 195 mAh on the 42mm version. According to the claims, the Amazfit GTR 47mm version should last 24 days and the 42mm version should last 12 days. And if you use it just like a watch, no Bluetooth or HR sensor activated, the numbers drastically rise to 40 days and 34 days respectively. In our testing, the watch consumed about 5 to 7 percent a day if you use it as connected with your phone. And if you use it as a watch only, then you will surely get a longer battery backup. The charger is a proprietary magnetic charger which charges the watch to 100 percent in about 2 hours.

Conclusion

The Amazfit GTR is a great watch if you want to use it as a watch only and only want a bare minimum from it. The expectation will drop if you expect more from a smartwatch with AMOLED display at this price range.
