With this pricing, the latest phone from Asus takes on another flagship killer, OnePlus 6. The OnePlus flagship was launched back in May with mostly similar features but with a slightly higher price. Let’s find out which one is the real flagship killer and offers better value for money in this price segment.

Asus Zenfone 5Z Vs OnePlus 6 Specifications

Design and Notch Display

Starting with the design and build of the two smartphones, both the phones look premium with their glass and metal body. They both also feature a similar front with a notch on the top. When comparing both the phones’ design, Zenfone 5Z seems to be a bit more compact and it is also lightweight. 6GB/128GB- Rs. 32,999 8GB/256GB- Rs. 36,999 6GB/128GB- Rs. 39,999 8GB/256GB- Rs. 43,999

However, there is one thing in which OnePlus 6 is a step ahead of Zenfone 5Z. If we talk about the display, the Zenfone 5Z features a 6.2-inch 19:9 aspect ratio IPS LCD display with minimum bezels on each side and a notch on top. While the OnePlus 6 sports a similar 6.28-inch notch display but it is an Optic AMOLED panel.

Both have an FHD+ screen resolution, but the display of OnePlus 6 is sharper and viewing angles are great thanks to the AMOLED panel.

Cameras

When it comes to the camera, both the phones sport dual rear cameras with almost similar features. The Zenfone 5Z’s 12 MP (f/1.8, 1.4µm) + 8 MP (f/2.0, 1.12µm) camera performs sometimes better than that of 16 MP (f/1.7, 1.22µm) + 20 MP (f/1.7, 1.0µm) on OnePlus 6. However, both the cameras click good pictures with all detailing in all lighting conditions.

When it comes to portrait shot, the Zenfone 5Z blurs the background very well and gives good results while maintaining the colors, whereas OnePlus 6 results slightly less sharp portrait as can be seen below. When it comes to low-light photography, both the phones’ cameras are amazingly good, thanks to the aperture size. Take a look at low-light images below- For landscape photography, Zenofone 5Z has a wide-angle secondary lens which takes better landscape than OnePlus 6 covering more area.

Front Camera

Coming to the front camera, both the phones have a single selfie shooter which is also quite good.

The 8MP sensor in Zenfone 5Z offers better colors and selfies look more natural without any beautification. However, sometimes it overexposes the selfie. OnePlus 6 has a 16MP sensor that clicks really good selfies also. When it comes to low light, again both the phones offer good results as they both have the same aperture size. Zenfone 5 captures more natural colors in the low and artificial light.

Hardware: Same Snapdragon 845

Both the flagships smartphones are beasts when it comes to performance. Both feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. However, the OnePlus 6 is limited to the storage and the Zenfone offers a hybrid slot for storage expansion of up to 2TB which is good. Talking about the comparison, both the smartphones with SD 845 offer insane performance whether it is hardcore gaming, or 4K recording or any other extensive task. The AnTuTu benchmark scores of the phones are also almost similar.

Software: ZenUI Vs OxygenOS

Software-wise, the Zenfone 5Z runs its own ZenUI skin on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. Similarly, the OnePlus 6 also comes with Android Oreo 8.1 with OxygenOS on top. Here, the comparison depends on user preference. Where ZenUI comes with several new features, the OxygenOS has more stock-like experience. Both OS comes with a number of features and the choice of UI largely comes down to the user preference.

Battery and Connectivity

The Zenfone 5Z is powered by a 3,300mAh non-removable battery with AI capable fast charging and also Quick Charge 3.0 support. The OnePlus 6 is also powered by a similar 3,300 mAh battery and it comes with company’s proprietary dash charging support. So, in terms of battery both the phones are kind of similar. When it comes to connectivity, both the phones have usual features like Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, USB Type C port and 3.5mm audio jack options. Zenfone 5Z supports dual Nano-SIM cards and comes with a hybrid microSD slot while OnePlus doesn’t support MicroSD.

Conclusion

The Zenofone 5Z and OnePlus 6 both have been challenged the flagships in India because of their premium features and low pricing. OnePlus has already been known for its aggressive pricing in the premium segment, while Asus has gone a step further now. The all-new Zenfone 5Z is priced slightly lower than OnePlus 6 which makes it a good contender.
