Sources claim that telecom minister Kapil sibbal is likely to announce this scheme in a couple of days. MTNL will offer the new roaming plans for free, whereas BSNL is expected to levy a nominal charge of 1 Rupee per day while on Roaming. Videocon was the first operator to provide free roaming in India while roaming on its own network. The talks of providing Roaming services free throughout India are nothing new. Such talks have been in motion since last two years when the cabinet approved New Telecom Policy 2012 back in May 2012. MTNL’s Mumbai customer will not have to pay any extra charge when they travel to Delhi, and same scheme will apply for its Delhi customers. For now it seems like 9.78 crore BSNL mobile subscribers and 35.75 lakh MTNL customers will soon enjoy free or subsidized roaming throughout India. Source: TOI
