Camera and Internal Storage

Gionee Pioneer P4 packs a 5 MP camera coupled with LED flash at the back along with HD video recording and 4x digital zoom. It is combined with a 2 MP front-facer to assist in making video calls. While the budget smartphone segment has handsets with improved camera aspects, these basic aspects are pretty annoying considering the price of the phone. On the storage front, there is a satisfactory 8 GB of internal memory capacity that can be expanded up to 32 GB with the help of a micro SD card. It is pretty acceptable to see 8 GB of storage in the handset while most smartphones come only with 4 GB of storage capacity.

Processor and Battery

The Gionee Pioneer P4 is given a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor clocked at 1.3 GHz speed, which should deliver decent levels of multi-tasking and performance when combined with the 1 GB of RAM that is bundled with the handset. A 1,800 mAh battery under the hood of the smartphone is claimed to deliver 11 hours of talk time on 3G and 16.5 hours of talk time on 2G and a standby time of up to 386 hours. There are many phones in the entry-level and mid-range smartphone segment that provide superior backup making the battery capacity in the Gionee handset low.

Display and Features

Gionee has included a 4.5 inch FWVGA capacitive touch screen display on the Pioneer P4 that boasts a screen resolution of 854×480 pixels. Again, the screen size is acceptable but the low resolution renders only mediocre quality content on the screen. Like any other budget smartphone, the Gionee Pioneer P4 is also a dual SIM smartphone supporting Dual Standby feature and it is fueled by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. To keep the users connected, there is a slew of features such as Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, micro USB, Wi-Fi Direct and 3G via both the SIM cards, hence we do not have any complaints in this segment.

Comparison

Analyzing the specs and pricing of the Gionee Pioneer P4, it can be said that the smartphone will be a stiff competitor to Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini A200, Panasonic P31, Xolo Q1000 Opus and Intex Aqua i6.

Price and Conclusion

The pricing of Rs 9,800 for a dual SIM quad-core smartphone is pretty tempting, but it has to be considered that there are a plethora of better offerings in the market at the similar price range. The Gionee Pioneer P4 is devoid a better display, advanced camera features and better battery backup. If Gionee has included the aforementioned aspects, the handset would have been a superior offering priced in the sub Rs 10,000 price range.
