By default, your Android phone automatically links other information like Gmail address or WhatsApp account with the contact number if possible. So in most cases, you don’t have to manually link contacts on Android. However, sometimes your phone may not be able to link a contact’s information if the number is not connected to the other service; such as Gmail. Furthermore, you might also like to manually link a contact if a contact has more than one number. If you are ready to link contacts in Gmail to decrease the clutter, then keep reading and I’ll show how to both link and unlink contacts on Android.
How to link contacts on Android
As long as you have an Android phone running Android 4.4 KitKat or above, you should be able to use the link contacts feature on your phone. Here’s how to use it: Open up the “Contacts” app on your phone. You can also open the “Phone” app, but make sure you move to the list of contacts section. Now tap on the contact you like to link to open its details, and then tap on the menu button at the top-right corner and select “Link” from it. If the contact already has another linked contact, then the button will say “View linked contacts” instead. Your list of contacts will open up along with a suggestions list that matches the name of the selected contact. Just scroll and tap on the contact you want to link and it will be linked.
If you want to link another contact to this contact, tap the menu button again and select “View linked contacts” from it. Afterward, tap on the “ADD” button to add another contact.
How to unlike contacts on Android
If for some reason wrong contacts have been linked, you can easily unlink them from the contacts app. Tap on the contact to open its details and then tap on the main menu at the top-right corner and select “View linked contacts”. Now tap on the “Unlink” button and all the contacts will be unlinked. Depending on your phone manufacturer and Android version, it might be possible to unlink an individual contact instead of unlinking them all at once.
Wrapping up
I personally utilize this feature to link my contacts who own more than one number. This makes it easier to search them and tap on one of their numbers I want to call.
