Microsoft band will be powered by Microsoft Health, a service which analysis the data gathered by fitness band. Microsoft health includes a series of apps and cloud support and will provide users with information like sleep time, how much recovery time they need, calories burnt, etc. It also offers powerful insight from Microsoft’s intelligence system.
Microsoft band has 10 sensors including optical heart rate sensor, 3-axis accelerometer with gyroscope to track movements, GPS, skin temperature, galvanic skin response, UV light, ambient light sensor and a Microphone, which can be used to connect with cortana.
The 1.4 inch 320 x 106 touchscreen display can mirror smartphone notifications. The fitness band also includes a 100 mAh battery which will last for 48 hours with normal use. Microsoft Band is meant to provide fitness tracking, Guided workouts, heart rate tracking and GPS Run mapping. Microsoft intends to develop Microsoft health as a separate platform. It will also work with other fitness band like Jawbone UP band, RunKeeper, MapMyFitness, etc. Microsoft band will be compatible with any Bluetooth LE device running Windows Phone 8.1, iOS 7.1 or newer on an iPhone 4S or newer, and Android 4.3 or newer.
