Back in March while releasing the Nokia X in India for Rs 8,599, the firm assured that it will be announcing the X+ and XL within couple of months. Hence, the quiet release of Nokia XL should not be a big surprise. When it comes to the specifications, the Nokia XL is a dual SIM smartphone boasting a 5 inch display with a WVGA resolution of 480×800 pixels. It runs on the Nokia X software based on AOSP Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play processor paired with 768 MB of RAM. On the storage front, there is 4 GB of native storage space that can be expanded by up to 32 GB using a micro SD card. Also on board is a 5 MP primary camera at the back with a 2 MP secondary front-facer that can be of help while making video calls and clicking selfies. The 2,000 mAh battery in the handset is claimed to last for up to 16 hours of talk time and up to 720 hours of standby time. The Nokia XL has a highly customized version of Android platform that is further enhanced with the Metro inspired UI and Nokia store. There is no access to Google Play Store, but users can side-load the Android apps from third party sources. This is possible as Nokia has incorporated the AOSP based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the base of the platform. Apart from these aspects, Nokia has included pre-installed applications such as Nokia MixRadio, Facebook, Skype, Twitter, Viber and WeChat on the Nokia XL smartphone.
