OPPO F1s Physical Overview

The OPPO F1s features an all-metal design, continuing the trend of some really good looking OPPO phones out there. The F1s comes with chamfered edges and fairly slim bezels on the sides, making it easier to hold. At the same time, they also help the phone look elegant. The top and the bottom are a little longer that we’d have liked, but overall, the phone looks very good. The feel in hand is excellent as well, thanks to the metallic build and chamfered edges. The front of the phone is adorned by the 5.5 inch IPS LCD display, Home button which also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner and the ear piece. The ambient light sensor and front camera are present on the either sides of the ear piece.

On the bottom, you will find the two capacitive touch buttons for navigation, placed on the either side of the Home button in the middle. The Home button doubles up as fingerprint scanner.

The Volume rockers are placed on the left side of the phone.

The Power button has been placed on the right side of the phone. Just above the power button, you will find the SIM card slot as well.

The bottom of the phone is very busy. It houses the microUSB port in the middle and two speaker grills. Annoyingly enough, the grill holes are not spread evenly – to the left, there are only 5 holes while there are 8 holes on the right. This is a design issue and something that will not bother a majority of users, but it’s worth pointing out. The 3.5 mm audio jack is also present on the bottom of the phone.

The top of the phone is almost bare, with only the secondary mic being placed there.

The backside of the phone is quite minimal as well. The camera sensor and LED flash are placed towards the left on the top. The OPPO logo is towards the center. Chamfered edges and two antenna lines make the entire phone look even better.

Display Overview

The OPPO F1s comes with a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with HD resolution. You get 1280 x 720 pixels with a pixel density of ~267 PPI. The screen looks very good, with the colour reproduction being excellent. The contrasts and brightness are good as well, with decent sunlight visibility. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 4.

Camera Overview

The OPPO F1s comes with a 13 MP camera on the back, with an aperture of f/2.2 and Phase Detection Autofocus. To assist the phone in low light, OPPO has used an LED flash to the right of the camera sensor. You can record videos up to 1080p at 30 frames per second.

On the front, you get a 16 MP camera for video calling and selfies. It features a f/2.0 sensor with a 120 degree wide angle lens, which should help it capture a lot more light than regular front cameras. You can record 1080p videos using the front camera. To make use of the high resolution front camera, OPPO has bundled a ton of options in the camera app, featuring Beautify 4.0.

Conclusion

The OPPO F1s is a beautifully designed phone. It looks excellent and feels really good in hands. The main attraction of the F1s is the front camera – OPPO calls it the selfie expert. On purely that front, the F1s performs well, with extensive options available for selfie fans thanks to Beautify 4.0. However, we do have our reservations about a few aspects of the phone. A higher resolution screen, fast charge and Android 6.0 Marshmallow would have made the phone a much better deal, especially at its price of Rs. 17,990.
