Camera and Internal Storage
In terms of camera, the Philips W6618 is an average performer featuring an 8 MP camera sensor at its back supplemented by a 2 MP front-facing snapper that facilitates in making video calls. While many budget offerings arrive with advanced photography features, these cameras on the handset are fall on the mediocre segment. Again, when it comes to internal storage capacity, those who hate the 4 GB of internal storage would surely be annoyed with this battery centric phone as it comes with such a low in-built memory space. However, it supports expandable storage support, presumably 32 GB as in the other phones in that segment. But, considering that fact that the operating system and applications get stored on the default memory, Philips could have provided at least 8 GB of storage onboard.
Processor and Battery
Under the hood of Philips W6618 is a MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor that is clocked at 1.3 GHz and it is coupled with 1 GB of RAM. This combination of processor and RAM is acceptable as they can handle multi-tasking to some extent without causing any trouble. Battery capacity is 5,300 mAh as mentioned above. Such a huge battery in the Philips W6618 enables the handset to last up to 33 hours of talk time and up to 66 days or 1,604 hours of standby time. This backup is incomparable and it should be sufficient to even the intense users.
Display and Features
Philips has included a 5 inch qHD display on the W6618 carrying a resolution of 960×540 pixels. This totals to an average pixel density of 220 pixels per inch, which is again low as compared to a majority of mid-range smartphones. For connectivity, the Philips W6618 includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and dual SIM support and it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.
Comparison
The Philips W6618 being capable of lasting for long hours will compete with smartphones such as Huawei Ascend Mate, Lenovo P780 and Gionee M2.
Key Specs
Price and Conclusion
The Philips W6618 comes with a price tag of $273 (approx. Rs 16,500) that is reasonable. The highlight of the phone is its mammoth battery of 5,300 mAh capacity that can deliver extraordinary backup for users to do anything that they wish without having to check their battery status at all. Besides the battery, Philips appears to have included only basic specifications with nothing exceptional. If it had used a better screen resolution, increased internal storage capacity and advanced camera features, the Philips W6618 would have become a best-in-class smartphone winning the hearts of consumers.
