Earlier, there were several reports of Reliance Jio launching the Jio Coin app after the recent popularity of cryptocurrency. After that, several fake apps with the name JioCoin started appearing on the Google Play Store, soliciting investments in cryptocurrencies from the public. Reliance Jio has now confirmed that it has not launched any such app and has warned users that all such apps are fake. The telecom company said to ANI in a statement, “The Reliance Jio come across reports in media and other websites about the existence of purported Jio Coin Apps on the Internet that are soliciting investments in cryptocurrencies from people. Reliance Jio would like to inform the public and media that there are no such apps offered by the company or its affiliates or associates“. There were some fake apps with downloads between 10,000 and 50,000 and some were with less than 1,000 downloads. Additionally, there were some fake websites with Jio coin name that popped up recently asking people to register with their name and email address.

Reliance Jio has said that it takes such fraudulent attempts by unscrupulous persons seriously. These are to misguide the public in the name of Jio and the company will take appropriate legal action against them. “Reliance Jio takes a serious note of such fraudulent attempts by unscrupulous persons to misguide the public in the name of Jio and reserves the right to take appropriate legal recourse“, the statement further added. The company, however, did not confirm if it has plans to launch its cryptocurrency products in future.
