Here’s our take on the Grand 2 VS Nexus 4 duel!

Hardware

Display

Both devices feature the same 720p HD resolution. However, the Grand 2 comes with a substantially larger screen in a 5.25 inch unit, whereas the Nexus 4 features a smaller 4.7 inch one. This naturally means that the Grand 2 will have a lesser pixel density compared to the Nexus 4. The choice between these 2 devices on display size basis has to be yours, since it is your usage which would define what screen size you are after. Multimedia, despite the poorer pixel density, will be better enjoyed on the Grand 2 thanks to the much larger screen. Again, operation using one hand will become difficult.

Camera and Storage

Both these quad corers are neck to neck on imaging artillery. Both devices feature 8MP main shooters on the rear, and 1.xMP front shooters. Google’s Nexus 4 isn’t known to be a great camera phone, while Grand users have reportedly been happy with the camera on the device. It also has to do with the AMOLED screen that accentuates colours to give you a sense of better picture, making users like the camera even more. Although we haven’t yet tested the Grand 2’s camera, we would like to choose it over the Nexus 4. The Grand 2 will come with 8GB or on-board ROM, while the Nexus 4 comes in 2 variants, 8GB and 16GB. However, the Nexus 4 does not allow for expansion of storage, which the Grand 2 does. And this is why we pick the Grand 2 over the Nexus 4 in storage terms.

Processor and Battery

The Nexus 4 comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro which features a 1.5GHz quad core processor. On the other hand, the Grand 2 features a slightly slower processor, running at 1.2GHz which again offers quad core computing. The S4 Pro is definitely a powerful processor, and given the amount of extra RAM the Nexus 4 has, we can see the Nexus 4 outperform Samsung’s Galaxy Grand 2. The Grand 2 impresses with a 2600mAh battery as opposed to a 2100mAh unit on the Nexus 4. However, there probably won’t be much of a difference between actual runtimes of these devices thanks to the difference in screen size.

Conclusion

Samsung are reportedly going to price the Grand 2 between 22,900 INR and 24,900 INR, which does not seem like a great idea. With the rising popularity of Nexus devices in the country, a potential buyer will definitely sway toward a Nexus 4 than a Grand 2. If Samsung want the Grand 2 to do as well a the initial version did, they will have to price the device closer to the 20k INR mark.
