The firm that managed to dethrone Samsung in China is likely to assemble the handsets in India within couple of years. For Xiaomi, the Indian market is claimed to be the most crucial overseas market. The vendor appears to have considered using the non-defunct manufacturing plant set by Nokia near Chennai for the assembling of its offerings, but it has been ruled out due to the unavailability of large component ecosystem that is needed to make smartphone. Regarding this, the India Head of Xiaomi, Manu Jain claimed that they have started talking to potential partners to see if they can assemble the smartphones for them in the country. He added that the firm is also considering the regulatory constraints, financials, required investment and tax implications to set up the manufacturing plant as they are complicated. As per Hugo Barra, the Head of International Operations at Xiaomi, the firm’s partners in China, Foxconn and Inventag have been involved in discussions regarding the process.
